Can Flume be pipped to the post for this year's Hottest 100?

As the old (classic) song goes, everyone may well be 'rockin' around the Christmas tree', enjoying 'a happy holiday' at the moment, but there are some people who are taking this time of year pretty seriously: those in the mix to top this year's Hottest 100.

The Hottest 100 odds seem pretty stacked in favour of Flume and their dance anthem Never Be Like You, with odds as short as 1.6 with both William Hill and Sports Bet, but let's not forget that 2016 has been the year of shock results in votes, with Trump emerging victorious in the US election and the surprise of the British Brexit vote.

So, perhaps the 'popular' vote is no longer quite so predictable. In light of that, perhaps Drake and his anthem One Dance (backable at 21.0 with William Hill), and Jungle by Tash Sultana (currently 5.0 from Sports Bet) both look quite tempting, especially if you think the Flume vote might end up split between Never Be Like You and Say It, which are both in contention to top Triple J's Hottest 100.

To put Flume's achievement in perspective, he's ahead of six Drake songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and behind only three.

Having dropped Never Be Like You back in January, Flume brought it back into the minds of the public by putting on a banging performance on Triple J on December 1st, reminding everyone just why Australia's golden boy of music has made it so big, and closing 2016 in style with his amazing 'Like A Version' performance.

Despite the odds heavily favouring Flume, we saw last year that nothing is decided until the final votes have been counted, with Ruben somehow managing to sneak in and take that coveted number one spot, despite winning track Hoops derided as not being edgy enough by Steve Kilbey, who managed to bring about a hefty dose of controversy in what was already a pretty passionate debate.

For those of you wanting to tip an international act for the crown, then Drake is perhaps the one to get behind. Not only has he been the most streamed musician worldwide on Spotify this year, but he's also hardly been out of the entertainment news in 2016, thanks to his 'joke' feud with Eminem (in case you were living under a rock and missed out on all that, read more about it here) and his relationship with Rhianna, both mainstays of the gossip columns. In fact, Drake is now such an integral part of mainstream culture that he features on one of the most widely-loved Christmas jumpers of 2016

So, why wouldn't he manage to go and shock us all by getting to the top of the Triple J Hottest 100? After all, what seems more unlikely, anthem One Dance getting to the very top of the Hottest 100 this year, or Drake finding himself as an unlikely festive symbol for the modern age?! Exactly...

With not long to go now until we find out for sure, you still have time not only to vote but also to put your money where your mouth is!
