Are Any New Streaming Services To Enter the UK Market?

In terms of what new television show and movie streaming services have arrived in the United Kingdom, there aren't many. ITVX, you could say, is the newest streaming giant to enter the UK market, but it is, in fact, just a rebranding of ITV Hub.

When the service launched in 2008, it was known as ITV Player. It changed to ITV Hub in 2015, and then in late 2022, it changed to ITVX. ITVX can be viewed on TV and Sky. The question being asked here is, are there any new streaming services set to enter the UK market, or have any new ones arrived but slipped under the radar? Find out more right here.

What are the UK's main TV shows, live casino games, and movie streaming services in 2022?

The biggest television show and movie streaming websites that people from the United Kingdom have access to in 2022 are the following:

  • Netflix
  • Amazon Prime Video
  • Disney+
  • Sky
  • ITVX
  • Peacock
  • Hulu
  • HBO Max
  • Evolution Gaming live dealer streaming

These major streaming companies are just as big as today's leading new casino companies and platforms that stream live dealer games and other casino games, such as slots, blackjack, and roulette. The one thing they all have in common is that they are all raking in millions of dollars in revenue each year.

Additionally, UK residents also have access to several other lesser-known streaming sites, such as Ovid.tv, Philo, Paramount+, MUBI, IFC Films Unlimited, The Criterion Channel, Tubi, and KweliTV, which then leads us to freevee (aka Amazon Freevee).
Amazon freevee is free for all Amazon Prime subscribers. However, it comes with adverts. In other words, you can watch things that aren't available on your regular Prime subscription, but you have to suffer adverts.

One of the other exciting things that are new on Amazon Prime Video that many subscribers aren't aware of is that there's also a store where you can subscribe to more channels. Alternatively, you can buy or rent other content from within your Amazon Prime Video account.

What new streaming services are there in the UK in 2022?

You could, therefore, argue that there are lots of new streaming services now available in the UK market and that many more are likely to be available soon, but these new channels can only be accessed from within your Amazon Prime Video account. Several new channels recently arrived here, which means that you can now stream your favourite content from some of Hollywood's biggest studios.

You have been able to subscribe to the MGM channel in Prime for a couple of years now, but Paramout+ is new, having only just become available in late 2022, and some of the other top 10 new streaming channels that you can also now subscribe to via Prime are the following:

  • The Coda Collection channel (which has exclusive concerts, music documentaries, live events, and more)
  • Curzon (which has critically-acclaimed content and other award-winning works of art)
  • Docubay (which has award-winning docs from over 100 countries worldwide)
  • Hallmark TV (today's best popular rom-coms, mysteries, and dramas from Hallmark)
  • HistoryHit (self-proclaimed best history channel in the world)
  • Marquee TV – Arts on Demand (features some of the best dance performances from around the world, e.g., Swan Lake)
  • Viaplay (a sports channel that streams the latest sports from around the world, such as rugby and football)
  • ShortsTV (the world's only dedicated HDTV channel that streams short movies 24 hours per day
  • Discovery+ and Discovery entertainment (reality TV, documentaries, true crime, paranormal, mysteries, adventure and exploration, motoring, food & home, and more
  • erosnow (features a vast collection of Bollywood and regional Indian movies)

Other honourable mentions

If that's not enough to keep you going, then you may like to try the odd month here and there subscribing to some of these other great channels too. Some of the biggest and most famous channels to keep an eye out for are the History Channel, Lionsgate+ (formerly Starzplay), Studiocanal, BFI Player, Arrow Video, Sundance Now, and Acorn TV.
Some of the other top-rated channels that also deserve mentioning are Film Box, Fandor, realeyez, Icon Film, BritBox (classic TV crafted by BBC and ITV), and Crime Investigation Play. There's also ITV Catch Up, PBS America, Great Outdoor Courses, Gaia, Curiosity Stream, Full Moon, Shudder, Discovery Kids, Up Family, Pash, Docssville, and Alchemiya. The list goes on and on and on.

Unlike Netflix, where you can watch everything that appears on your account when logged in, these additional channels/subscriptions will set you back anywhere from $/€/£0.99 per month up to no more than $/€/£8.99 per month. The most expensive add-on subscription tends to be the Gaia documentary channel. Most other channels are around $/€/£3.99 to $/€/£5.99.

Don't forget that you can stop and start as many of these channels as and when you please. They are all based on a monthly rolling subscription. There's so much to watch now at Amazon, and although it's extra, it's fantastic, and there's always something to watch. It makes you wonder why Netflix hasn't already started offering add-on channels.
