Horn & Hardardt Children's Hour / NYC TV Shows

The Horn & Hardardt Children's Hour

On Sunday Morning, January 30, 1949, "The Horn & Hardardt Children's Hour" made it's network debut on NBC TV. This production was already a popular kid's variety and talent show on NBC radio since the 1930's.

"The Horn & Hardardt Children's Hour" showcased many up and coming performers like Leslie Uggams, The Hines Brothers (Gregory & Maurice) and Arnold Stang. Actor and radio/TV announcer Paul Douglass was the show's first host on NBC Radio. The second host was future radio/TV game show host and producer Ralph Edwards ('This Is Your Life') and the third and last host of "The Horn & Hardardt Children's Hour" was actor/singer and announcer Ed Herlihy (best remembered as the commercial voice of Kraft Foods).

Mr. Herlihy was not only able to introduce the acts and keep them in a calm and excited frame of mind, he was also able to perform with the kids and keep the momentum of the show going. Mr. Herlihy continued to host and perform on the NBC radio version of the series until "The Horn & Hardardt Children's Hour" made it's network TV debut on NBC on Sunday Morning, January 30, 1949.

The TV show continued to present new child performers on on Sunday mornings until the NBC TV network execs dropped the show on Sunday, May 24, 1957.

"The Horn & Hardardt Children's Hour" returned to the NYC TV airways on WABD Ch. 5 as a Saturday evening kid's show beginning on October 5, 1957. Mr. Herlihy and the kids would continue to entertain viewers and present new up and coming kid performers until Ch. 5 decided to end "The Horn & Hardardt Children's Hour" for good on Saturday. July 12, 1958.
