Angie Dickinson on the Rat Pack and Her Career

Angie Dickinson on the Rat Pack and Her Career

Angie Dickinson, who calls herself “One lucky bitch” had a great career in movies and on television with the very popular dramatic series Police Woman. Some of the movies she starred in included Point Blank with Lee Marvin, Dressed to Kill directed by Brian DePalma, Rio Bravo with John Wayne, and The Killers with Ronald Reagan.

She even did a movie with The Rat Pack, none other than Ocean’s 11, where she became good friends with The Rat Pack - Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr.

Appearing in Ocean’s 11 in 1960 led to dating Frank Sinatra, “We got very close to getting married in 1964,” she says about Frank. “He said, ‘You know, I’m not going to marry an actress.’ And I said, ‘Well I don’t blame you, I wouldn’t wish that on anybody.’ And I actually didn’t want to marry him. So I didn’t want him to ask me because I didn’t want to say no to Frank Sinatra!”

She did end up marrying songwriter Burt Bacharach, “He never loved me, I can tell you that right now.”

She’s best known for Police Woman which ran for 4 seasons over NBC. Television was considered a comedown for a movie star but she took the series after realizing, “I wanted to be a household name.”

Dickinson was a frequent guest on The Dean Martin Show which ran for 9 years on NBC. Her appearances on the Tonight show with Johnny Carson were always hilarious because she was so open to talking about anything. In this segment from CBS' Sunday Morning program she confesses to dating Carson.

Now 87-years old, Angie Dickinson lives alone but apparently remains as outspoken as ever.
