Lucille Ball & Barbara Walters: An Interview of a LifeTime Has there ever been a better TV interviewer than Barbara Walters? That’s a rhetorical question! In this intimate (but highly diffused) interview, Lucille Ball discusses her extraordinary TV career and goes into painful detail about the failure of her marriage to Desi Arnaz. “He worked very hard,” she says of Arnaz. “And got a lot of respect for what he did and they forgot about that.” This talk occurred in 1977, three years after the end of her 3rd CBS series, Here’s Lucy. She was 66. By her side is husband Gary Morton who did the audience warm-up for The Lucy Show and Here’s Lucy. Lucy also mentions her culinary mastery of Chopped Chicken Liver. “I was making Chopped Chicken Liver, it takes a couple of hours to make a huge dish, we were expecting some guests. And I was doing fine, I was right on time, and I tasted it and it ended salt.” Then comes what the couple calls a Lucy-ism, “I already had it in the dish but it wasn’t too late because I hadn’t put the egg yoke on the top. So I took a big salt thing and I went like this and the top came off. And the entire thing looked like a snow bank. They’re practically driving in the driveway. I just didn’t know what to do so I quickly did the worst thing you could think of - I rinsed it.”
