Tarantino Reveals How The Golden Girls -
And Elvis - Got Reservoir Dogs Made
What would possibly be the nexus between the 1980s sitcom 'The Golden Girls' and the King of Rock-n-Roll that would lead to Quentin Tarantino completing his first feature length motion picture, 'Reservoir Dogs'?
In this interview with Jimmy Fallon for the Tonight Show, Tarantino explains, "The connection is - before I did 'Reservoir Dogs,' I had a very unsuccessful acting career. However one of the few jobs I ever did get..." There's a hilarious exchange between Tarantino and Fallon here before continuing with the story, "Was for an Elvis impersonator on The Golden Girls.
"That's why it worked, because I walked around dressed like Elvis in the eighties." Tarantino explains how he was going through an Elvis Rockabilly phase, dressing like a "hillbilly cat" complete with a dyed black black pompadour. That look alone landed him the role, "Sophia's wedding is what it was... It became a two-part 'Golden Girls' so I got residuals for both parts. And it was so popular they put it on a 'Best of The Golden Girls' and I got residuals every time THAT showed." By the time all of these had programs aired and rerun, "Three years later I made like $3,000. And that kept me going during our pre-production time trying to get 'Reservoir Dogs' going."
This clip aired on what would have been Elvis' 85th birthday. That has to be one of the weirdest stories you'll hear today!
