BITS 'N' PIECES
Back in 1994 when my best friend James showed me this thing I'd never heard of called the internet I imagined one day there would be web sites devoted to obscure subject matter I actually cared about. That proved to be true for sure - sites like Superdickery (featuring confounding comic book covers) remains one of my favorites. Now, doing research for a project I'm working on, I've discovered a few more niche sites like The Las Vegas Discography, an attempt to cover all the live albums recorded in Sin City.

So Perez Hilton got punched in the face by will.i.am's manager for calling the pop star a "faggot." Life just gets more confusing by the minute. I personally can't stand Perez, earning a living by being a parasite is annoying as hell - unless you're Sacha Baron Cohen.

Kodak announced Monday that they are discontinuing Kodachrome film.

The definition of a rhetorical question: Whatever happened to Miss Cleo?

I'm looking for the ultimate Dean Martin fan, someone who knows this guy's career forwards and backwards. Is that you? Email me!

YOU TUBING
One of the great things about the Tonight show with Johnny Carson was the frequent use of guest hosts when Johnny took a night off. A world of stars subbed for Carson during the polyester decade - The Smothers Brothers, Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby, Don Rickles, the list is a long one. Here's the opening of a Tonight show from 1978 with Don Rickles hosting.

SNEAK PEEKS
I'm really sorry about the light blogging lately but I've been knee deep. Perhaps you may enjoy a snippet of an interview I did yesterday with the legendary comedian Pat Cooper. It picks up as we're talking about Las Vegas in the 1970s.

If you haven't seen Pat Cooper's standup you definitely should, he's an old school nightclub entertainer who is about as brash as they come. They don't make 'em like this guy anymore. And he's a true gentleman as well, it was very kind of him to call and help me out with this book I'm working on. You may know Pat from his hilarious appearances on Howard Stern's radio programs. What a guy!

Chantelle Grady writes: Please check out this You Tube video about a documentary currently in pre-production. My friend, Otis Farmer has been working on this project for the last few years. The subject of the film is Robert Clark, the first African-American elected to the Mississippi state house since reconstruction. It is a remarkable American story.

Week two of the Tonight show with Conan O'Brien hosting dropped 26% from Jay Leno's numbers a year ago this week - and he's down by 38 percent from last week's premiere. I still haven't tuned in...

THIS 'N' THAT
I used to love the Dean Martin Roasts when I was younger. Oh sure, they could be corny as heck with the heaviest laugh tracks around but, depending on the stars, there were some laughs to be had. Here's part of a roast with movie diva Bette Davis as the roastee.

Here's a link to a new podcast interview Eric from Just My Show did with Barry Williams (AKA Greg Brady). Enjoy!

TV blog / Miss Lois Romper Room Miss Lois Romper Room

Tim Witzig writes: "My mom was Miss Lois in St Louis from 1961 to 1972. Here are some photos. The TV station was KTVI channel 2 ABC at the time. Today the station is Fox 2 in the same location.

The station had a large transmission tower, but in 60’s high winds brought the tower down and it was truncated. I believe that truncated tower is now gone but it was a St Louis landmark from 1960 to 1990’s. My mom did a radio interview last year with a local St Louis morning talk show for Fox. I have attached a file of that show. I do not know if you can publish that audio, but I will leave that to you as it is OK with me. Also a link to a local news story she did in 2007 for a Peoria paper.  My Mom started as Miss Lois for a year or so in Peoria Ill. about 1961, We moved to St Louis 1962 when she got the offer to relocate there from the Romper Room head office in Baltimore I think. I was born 1963. She did the St Louis Romper Room show live every morning for about 11 years. My family moved to New Jersey in 1973 when my Dad got a better job offer. I think my Mom was ready to stop. Always the teacher, she wanted my brother and I to be exposed to the larger world and moving to New Jersey and just 12 miles from downtown Manhattan was that opportunity.

I wish someone in St. Louis would have a Romper Room reunion. My mom is 70 years old and lives in Illinois only 3 hours away. Do you know of any organizations that organize reunions for the kids and the Romper Room teachers? I think my mom would love that."

What a great idea - Romper Room reunions! Someone should do that...

Amazon just announced they are dropping all affiliates from North Carolina (that's me!) because of a new tax scheme the state is passing. The state wants to charge Amazon sales tax for all transactions that go through in state web sites. In other words, if someone from New York buys a product from Amazon and it's shipped to New York from Seattle (where Amazon is), North Carolina wants to tax that transaction - does that makes sense to you? I guess I'll be spending weeks & weeks pulling all Amazon links despite the fact that TVparty was responsible for $400,000 in sales last year alone! And they won't even do the courtesy of replying to me in person. Does that make sense either? Boy, I wish someone would sell $400,000 of me - believe me, I'd be grateful.
