RIPPED FROM THE HEADLINES!
Wanna see something truly bizarro? It's Hell Face, a movie I performed in last summer - it's a weird puppet / live action thriller that turned out pretty darn funny. I play Detective Chunk who is tracking down seditious conspirators that plan to replace the President with a more fiscally conservative imposter. I think this is pretty hilarious, it definitely appeals to my love of the absurd.

This is pretty groovy - a collection of commercials from Where The Action Is airing on Saturday afternoons in 1967 on ABC after American Bandstand at noon.

THIS 'N' THAT
Iconic TV star James Arness (Matt Dillon) has died. I really enjoyed the later years of Gunsmoke and still enjoy watching it on the rare occasion. Here are some outtakes you might enjoy that were collected in the 1950s for CBS affiliates, hosted by Arness:

George Carlin / TV Blog

DISCOVERED GEORGE CARLIN ROUTINE
Back in 1975, the Smothers Brothers hosted The Tonight Show for one evening. This was right after the cancellation of their (mostly) wonderful, short-lived NBC variety show. Their guests that night were Hoyt Axton, Minnie Ripperton, Pat Paulsen, Don Novello, and George Carlin. I taped most of the 90-minute show on a cassette recorder; here's a bit of George Carlin's routine, unfortunately the tape ran out before he did - but in it he talks about death.

From the press release: MemoryLane.com, the largest archive of nostalgic content, is offering exclusive clips of another American television icon, Johnny Carson! His 30-year run on late night television was chock full of entertaining and humorous skits and monologues. Today, fans can access historical videos spanning 20 years (1972-1992) and re-live the sensation that was The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

In addition, Memory Lane has added 1,001 classic television commercials from some of America’s best known brands featuring memorable characters like Alka-Seltzer's Speedy, the Jolly Green Giant, Bugs Bunny, Yogi Bear and Barbie.

From the press release: It's coming soon! The Mid Atlantic Nostalgia Convention is this September 22-24, 2011 at the Hunt Valley Marriott, Maryland

TUESDAY STUFF
Do you like looking at pictures of gorgeous gals with glorious gams? Legendary Playboy & Las Vegas Visitor photographer R. Scott Hooper has samples of the thousands of photos he took of the most beautiful women of retro-Las Vegas.

Back when I was a skinny kid bouncing around LA circa 1980 I used to go to a smoking hot spot called Odyssey 1 near the north east corner of Beverly and La Cieniga. It was there, five years later, that I stared down one of the most notorious drug dealers and mass murderers in history but you wouldn't be interested in that.

Someone dug up news footage of the paid-for protest that happened after the city pulled the club's dance license and it's pretty lame, by that point the club had gone from kids on Quaaludes to kids on crack and powder cocaine - not the best clientele if you're a homeowner in the neighborhood awaking to people fornicating or urinating (or worse) on your lawn. Then there was the resultant fire that gutted the building shortly after my aforementioned confrontation.

Sitcom writer/ director / producer Ken Levine is feuding with Roseanne Barr (or whatever she's ended up being called) and it's a delicious cat fight!

Just for laughs - no one was/is funnier than Groucho especially in You Bet Your Life outtakes!

TV NEWS
Kevin Butler has scanned the entertainment news pages and found the astonishing news that there is: "another all new Captain Kangaroo kid's TV show being produced. The role of the gentle, soft spoken tour guide and security head of the Treasure House / the Captain's Place will be played by another former clown, Mr. Pat Cashin. He will take on the role originally played by former Howdy Doody clown and former local NYC based children's educator Bob Keeshan. This version will not be like the failed 1997 production that featured messers John McDonough, George Cahill and Paul Pistoire."

My favorite sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm returns for an eighth HBO season on July 10th. The show may not be quite as good as it was a couple of years ago but I still find it irrefutable. Here's a sneak peek:

A while back I told you about a stupendous app for your Android, TV Shows Stream, that delivers TV shows right to your smart phone, hundreds of series, most in their entirety, some never released on DVD. Well the same folks have a new app called Movies Stream that offers a wide range of films from the beginning of the silent era all the way up to 2009.

Search by genre and decades and you'll find an amazing array of the best movies of all time. I watched All About Eve, Sunset Blvd. and Alien yesterday while I worked.

I also got caught up on documentaries I've been meaning to watch, The Brother Warner, Confessions of a Superhero and a few others. Betty Boop cartoons, Laurel & Hardy, Three Stooges - all in the palm of your hand.

I paid an introductory price of $3.00 and it's well worth the $5.00 eventual rate. 5 movies from Redbox will cost you that and my Evo allows me to connect to any flat screen TV for added value. Because I have an account with Mega Upload (and, by virtue, Mega Video) I can watch uninterrupted with no time limit (otherwise you'll need to take a half hour break every 72 minutes on Mega Video links). Other providers are available like Karambavid, Frogmovz, and others. I rarely have hiccups except in the heaviest periods of the day (9:00am) but I find Movie Stream and TV Shows Stream to be a much better source for TV and movies than expensive cable.

JUST FRIENDS
I just love the Little Rascals - one of the things Hal Roach's production did that was poarticulsarly hilarious to me was having these street urchins sing. But when they sang it was usually a very adult torch song that they warbbled. Here's Tommy Bond, later known as Butch in the series, singing 'Just Friends'. The look on the little pug's face as he tortuously renders this tender love song is priceless.
