Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Vol. 3
In case you aren't aware, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law is the Adult Swim series that cleverly recycled old Hanna-Barbera characters (like Peter Pottamus and Barney Rubble) as clueleess attorney Birdman's far out clients and adversaries. This program is zany, coarse and just plain weird; the familiar childhood characters integrated throughout the cast lead to some laughable juxtapositions.
The first episode in this DVD collection of 13 (entitled 'Turner Classic Birdman') is an oddball one, a clever re-configuring of some 1967 Birdman episodes. It's is a joy to watch, hilarious because it's not that far off from what the original campy Saturday morning cartoon was like.
The absurd main characters are voiced in ernest by Gary Cole (American Gothic) and Steven Colbert (The Colbert Report). It's silly and more than a bit inane but that's the point of this new Birdman.
From the product description: Harvey Birdman, the superhero formerly known as Birdman, is now practicing (and dimwitted) lawyer. His cases always involve legal disputes between cartoon characters. Past cases involve custody of Jonny Quest, a copyright infringement case between the Chan Clan and Jabberjaw, and Fred Flintstone's possible mob connections.
Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law is way over the top and spot-on funny, especially if you grew up with these characters - and with constant reruns on Cartoon Network, who didn't? This is the third and last volume of the series and it all comes in a very attractive package. Lot's of fun and perfect summertime viewing.
