Battlestar Galactica Season 2.5
I just finished watching the 10 episodes in this spectacular second series - Newsday calls Battlestar Galactica the best drama on television - and they may be right depending on how you feel about drama with science-fiction overtones.
For the most part, this is not shoot-em-up sci-fi - although the season ends with a bang - it's a thoughtful, tension filled narrative with clearly drawn characters and strong women at the center of each storyline.
I found the first season of Battlestar Galactica to be highly enjoyable but a bit hard to get into - and I missed entirely the first half of the second season and found I didn't need to have seen the previous episodes to fully enjoy Season 2.5.
This second season is riveting after a slowish start - and the finale has me wondering - where will they go with this and can I wait until the next DVD release to find out what happens? (Keeping in mind, I don't do appointment TV anymore.)
Edward James Olmos is rock solid as Commander Adama, giving the whole affair the hardcore center it needs. Who's idea was it to put an actual ACTOR in the lead of a sci-fi series?!? Let's have more of that. The production values throughout are nothing short of spectacular.
Extras include numerous podcast commentaries and documentaries - so if you're already a fan of the series, this collection is a must-have. I can't recommend this DVD collection highly enough. (For the record, I thought the original 1970/80's series was an abomination.)
