Mars - The Complete Third Season
If there's a better written or acted series than this one I don't know what it is. Veronica Mars is as good as The Shield or Rescue Me or any of your favorites with more WTF moments than you can count. It's the best TV series you didn't see (if ratings were any indication) a show so good the network aaaaaaalmost renewed and revamped the production for a fourth year. It was not to be, sadly. The first two seasons of Veronica Mars are utterly remarkable and season three is a fine capper to the series as producers shook things up a bit - we find Veronica off to college and going steady once again with bad boy Logan. At times exciting as hell and at others laugh out loud funny (like the very first scene in the first episode) Veronica Mars leads us down trippy, psychological alleyways to solve some richly intriguing mysteries - Columbo for the 21st century. Watching episode after episode on a lazy Saturday afternoon is like experiencing a modern day movie serial or an old-time dime novel brought to life. I love a mystery that keeps me guessing and that's what Veronica Mars does best even if the formula gets watered down by the end of the run. Still, the weakest episodes during season 3 (and there are several as opposed to earlier years) are still better than 90% of what's on TV now. Besides, Kristen Bell is just so damn cute you can't help but fall under her spell, this is the best-looking cast on TV that can actually act. Thankfully, Veronica Mars gets a classy send off with this third season DVD set. You get all 20 episodes on 6 discs in a very attractive gatefold package with unaired scenes, bloopers and a booklet with additional info on each episode. The best surprise of all is the filmed season four pilot, showing you the new direction FBI agent Veronica was going to go in if she had been picked up. (I guess there's something to be said about going out while you're still on top.) Save a whopping (37%) if you order online now! Time to start thinking about Christmas..
