Doomsday
Superman: Doomsday is a full length, straight to DVD animated movie based on the mega-hit comic book series 'The Death of Superman' from the 1990s. It's rated PG-13 for violence, this is an action-packed struggle that gets intense at times, not like the lighter TV superhero shows you may be used to. Produced by Bruce Timm (the world renowned cartoon artist behind Justice League Unlimited and The Batman) this production is another feather in his cap, another superior reimagining of a comic book classic, a soaring rendition of a super hero icon. Overall I liked this better than the theatrical film Superman Returns. Thanks to a tight script and superior animation, there really is an visceral emotional impact that comes with the inevitable conclusion, demonstrating just how ingrained this American myth is in our psyches. There's a bonus audio commentary that is fascinating along with a retrospective look at the 'Death of Superman' phenomenon, a documentary Requiem and Rebirth: Superman Lives!, and a 10-minute sneak peek of Justice League: The New Frontier and more. The new DVD comes in a very handsome 3-D package, a great bargain at only $13.99 if you order online now. It's currently ranked # 12 on Amazon's best-selling DVDs. TV on DVD Reviews: |
