of Star Command - The Complete Series
A spin-off of the very popular Saturday morning live action sci-fi show Space Academy, Jason of Star Command debuted in the fall of 1978 as a segment on Tarzan and the Super 7. This is my first look at Jason of Star Command and it's pretty
weird - but written by one of Star Trek's original scribes (Samuel
S. Peeples) and starring The special effects are pretty darn good for a Saturday morning show of that era, a period when Hollywood was flooded with young, eager special effects wizards who were zonked out on the original Star Wars movie. There are two interesting commentaries with producer Lou Scheimer and actors Craig Littler and John Berwick that provide a great deal of insight about the making of the show and another with the special effects team. Both are rich with behind-the-scenes anecdotes - obviously a good time was had by the cast and crew. A nicely produced and highly entertaining half-hour documentary gives us even more of a look at the Filmation studio and their hugely successful 1970's Saturday morning factory. I wasn't a part of the original audience but I suspect the main appeal of this DVD set will be nostalgic, a trip back to Saturdays long gone but fondly remembered. Fans of this show should be very pleased with this new release and the price is right at $26.99 with free shipping if you order online now. Jason of Star Command - The Complete Series is a 3-disc set
